About Jacqueline

Medical expertise

Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki is a Royal College certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a sub-specialty fellowship training in Developmental Paediatrics.  She completed both her medical school and specialty training at the University of British Columbia. Before becoming a specialist, she was a family physician practicing obstetrics caring for children and families. She is originally from Germany but has lived most of her life in Vancouver.

Dr.  Purtzki’s commitment to child health and passion for neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (physiatry) has made her a highly sought after specialist. She’s a key member of the recovery team in catastrophic injuries, such as brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, multi-trauma and treating those born with neurological/muscular skeletal impairments (such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy).

As a member of the interdisciplinary team working with outpatients at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre since 2006, she was instrumental in creating the Adolescent Complex Concussion Clinic. She has been caring for children with congenital or acquired spinal cord abnormalities at BC Children’s Spinal Cord Clinic since 2006. In 2016 she became co-director of the clinic. She also worked extensively at the Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children in-and-out-patient care treating children with severe brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy.

Dr. Purtzki’s approach is inclusive and compassionate while still highly clinical. She has found that collaborating with family and therapists as a team results in optimum outcomes for rehabilitation.
